Short Reflection

For the first time, I did in-depth research, I learned a lot of new things. From the beginning of the research phase, I need to find out the direction and topic I really want to study. I started with my own life and things I like, and that is YouTube. So I decided to do research on youtube creator (YouTuber) to see how they make a profit.

Once the problem is fixed, it is necessary to collect information on the subject. This part seems to be easy to find online, but the fact is to see a reference bibliographic study corresponding to the theme, I also spent a lot of time searching for a suitable bibliography. After getting the money that YouTuber can get from multiple routes, the next step is to design a survey. Problem production is to collect people’s thoughts about the topic, which is a bit strange to me. Although I have also created a questionnaire, this time is different from the previous one, and I need to discuss the topic in depth. In my initial design, the problem was too general and too few choices, and most of them only offered options and did not grasp the degree of choice. I also raised similar topics, which would waste me and collect very little data. So I made improvements and increased the selection of questions to get more useful data. In the collected responses received, I got the data to understand the habits of the respondents better. The fly in the ointment is that the collected answer data is less than expected.

On the other hand, the focus group, I have not touched it, so I am overwhelmed. When designing the focus group’s questions, it needs to be based on the data obtained from the questionnaire. Because the answers collected in the survey are not many, it is challenging to design the focus group. And design the question followed by the question is better than the scattered question, the extensibility is very important. Although I was not satisfied with the questions and performances I asked after completing the focus group, after this experience, I hope to be able to use what I have learned in the next study.

To be a YouTuber?

Social media is vital. Just think about the lack of YouTube, Instagram, facebook, twitter, and what entertainment do people have today? In fact, I am also a part of it. The first thing to get up every day is not to wash, but to lie in bed and watch the phone. Take a look at the latest release of KOL videos and see if there are any newly uploaded videos. In addition to the young people will do this, the elders also. After getting up, confirm the message on the phone before going to the grooming. Even my mother will first open the Korea drama and watch after she wakes. So social media definitely affects people all over the world. Through the development of social media, we can easily publish our photos or messages instantly. Share some travel photos, take photos with friends, take selfies in good moods, etc., attracting likes and followers to run your own social accounts. If you publish one often, in fact, this also means that you have the potential to become YouTuber.

In fact, many YouTubers started a channel on YouTube because they want to record and share their own lives, even when the channel is initially shared with few friends. For example in Hong Kong, there are lots of beauty YouTubers that are transformed from social media (Instagram/Facebook) to share videos and share them on youtube. The reason they will set up a channel is to share their various things with people. Some who are good at makeup will share makeup techniques, some who like to wear their matching clothing accessories, some will share the attractions worth visiting during the tour, some will share the winning skills in the game, and so on. The people who have evolved from Instagram to YouTube not only internet celebrity or KOL, it also includes some netizens. If you want to start a new experiment on youtube, you should pay attention to these things!

To be a YouTuber, you should have a personal style or attraction. Set up your own style on the channel, fix your own attractive audience direction, and bring your own charm to the videos. This statement is not unfounded. Before I went through a questionnaire survey and interviewed a focus group to understand people’s views and habits about YouTuber. They all have their own characteristics of preferring YouTuber, although most of them are interested in travel, they also said that there are too many similar channels on YouTube, even if their favorite channel disappears, there are other channels can replace.

The most important thing is to interact with your audience. Viewers often leave comments under the video. These messages are good or bad. Being able to bring a good impression to the audience and attracting them is also by responding to their comments and letting them know that you value their views. In fact, this is also a lot of things that internet celebrity will do. From interacting with the audience’s message, get some ideas to improve yourself, so that you can get inspiration from the subject!

For example, YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, whose YouTube channel is called PewDiePie has more than 90millions of subscriptions. The factor that he is recognized for success is that he will directly contact and talk to the audience. And he capitalized on “Let’s Plays,” although this was not the first to be published by “Let’s Play,” but he succeeded in making a strange and favorite video. On the one hand, it follows the trend, but also creates a video that may attract new audiences. I am very admired for the film that I produced so often on the popular movie charts.

 

 

The content of the videos created by YouTuber is essential, but more importantly, the expectation of becoming a YouTuber. No one wants to get a bad evaluation, everyone wants to be appreciated and supported. There is indeed a trend for YouTuber at present, not only for the increase in the number of viewers but also for the creators. If this is what you want to do, simply start with our existing phone. It can only be said that the seriousness and attitude of the matter can be found in the finished product. If you don’t want to make a hasty decision, you need to prepare a perfect plan to start. The current popular YouTubers have experienced a lot and become the present, I believe these can change some of your thoughts on YouTuber.

The rise and development of YouTube have created some of the largest social media and marketing entrepreneurs, enabling viewers to navigate the platform to their liking. There is a wide variety of information on the Internet that allows people to retrieve it in different ways. Yahoo, Bing, and Google are very famous search engines. Moreover, Google owns YouTube; it is one of the most popular sections of the internet. YouTube plays an essential role in the knowledge and truth of the entire media. YouTube has become a new TV. The creator of the video posted on YouTube became the KOL-key opinion leader of the public. For YouTuber, there are a variety of different areas like beauty, travel, games, music, knowledge, life and more. Each region has its uniqueness that appeals to the audience. For how you’ve used their videos to earn money on youtube, I’ve researched in the previous blog. The funds that YouTuber receives is from a proportional pageview, audience sponsorship to the channel, and branding on social media. However, YouTuber is still alive and well, and the profits earned are also growing proportionally. Which type of YouTuber is more profitable?

 

Our team has collected some quantitative data through questionnaires to gain a deeper understanding of people’s opinions on the online platform and YouTuber categories. Starting with the background habits of respondents, we know that about 54% of respondents spend one to three hours on youtube. Also, interested in the channel of the travel type, accounting for 33.8%.

In addition to setting the categories on the channel, I would also like to know the characteristics of the youtube creator if it affects the viewer to subscribe. So I put forward the importance of people’s various components. I have summarized four favorite features in the search, including humor, informative knowledge, talkative and good quality production. From the results of the questionnaire, we can see that many people think that good quality product is more important (28%). It is followed by talkative (26.9%). Although the results of the four characteristics are not much different, it also proves that people are more willing to spend time watching high-quality visual films. In the meantime, simple changes can be made to make the video significantly improved, so that more times and recognition is achieved, which is to produce a high-quality video that people want to watch. Change your sound quality, shooting skills and editing to create high-quality videos.

From attracting subscribers and page views, YouTuber can get money with audience sponsorship and branding. So ask the question of a deeper level of progress. In the end, will people like their favorite YouTuber to sponsor their channel with money? With this problem, people account for a large percentage of funds with less than 10 USD to subscribe to a youtube channel (89.2%), and a small portion of respondents will use 50-90 USD to accept. I was surprised by the results because all of them expected to choose an option of less than 10 USD.

Apart from the quantitative data, we collect some qualitative data through the Focus Group. The question about the results obtained in the questionnaire. Because I know that most of the respondents to the survey are biased towards spending much money on YouTube, I hope to have a deeper understanding of the focus group’s ideas and why. So I asked if they would pay to watch their favorite YouTuber, the results are very similar. Similarly, two-thirds of people choose not to, because youtube can find many similar channels and can be replaced — conversely, respondents who want to pay to indicate that this is a way to support YouTuber.

Moreover, all three respondents agreed that a channel should upload videos regularly. They think that regularly uploading videos can find more content and satisfy audience hopes. This is an interesting question. I often find that YouTuber almost always provides viewers with the time to post videos when browsing youtube. Just like one of the respondents said to regular upload are more stable and people can treat as a habit. I also asked about the YouTuber characteristics of the questionnaire results. For the more talkative and good quality production, they will choose which one. One of them said that talkative is more critical. This type of YouTuber can provide more information to let her not feel bored. The rest agrees that good quality products can make the audience more entertaining and the production witnessed their efforts.

From the perspective of the audience, it is easier to get popularity and browsing times for YouTuber with good quality products and travel categories. Also, I know the audience’s spending preferences and habits on youtube. After research and investigation, YouTuber is attractive, and many people sacrifice their previous jobs or give up their studies to youtube career. However, why is this dream career full of disadvantages despite its many advantages? Of course, youtube is a platform for entertainment, and both creators and viewers should enjoy it on this platform.

In this research, I discovered that YouTube’s marketing is the source of YouTuber’s revenue. It turns out that YouTube is free to share videos through the YouTube platform and the revenue of the videos is not directly from the viewers’ clicks, but mainly depends on the number of page views. First, the YouTube video is placed at the beginning of the advertisement. You can allow youtube to place the advertisement on your channel videos, which is what we usually watch on YouTube. Every thousand views will receive a certain amount, and the more views you make, the higher the revenue will be. Second, get your video sponsorship. This is divided into two categories, which are joined as channel sponsors and it is required to pay a certain amount each month to subscribe to a channel. Channel sponsors can get some special treatments like they can use logo and emoji when they comment on that channel’s video. On the other hand is the audience’s super chat or donation, means that the live broadcast on YouTube is that viewers can sponsor the amount they want to sponsor and no limited. Last but not least, branding on YouTube or social media. The brand will send some products to YouTuber, which can share the feeling after use the product on YouTube to promote the branded product or post on social media. The amount of these revenue sources is basically determined by the number of page views or subscribers.

In this study, the researchers looked at different YouTube videos that promoted the brand on their videos and consumers and viewers’ opinions on promoting the brand on YouTube. In addition to discovering that YouTuber earns revenue on those avenues, it also needs to build a personal image and style for the channel’s operations. From the research, we must know the audience’s views on brand promotion. They take the view of trust. If YouTuber approves or appreciates a product, the viewer will trust it, just like the word of mouth recommendation of friends and family.

This is a quantitative study of a random YouTube channel that describes how channels on YouTube have changed and analyzed YouTube channel viewing distribution over time. There are 18 different categories on YouTube today(Autos & Vehicles, Comedy, Education, Entertainment, Film & Animation, Gaming, How To & Style, Movies, Music, News & Politics, Nonprofits & Activism, People & Blogs, Pets & Animals, Science & Technology, Shows, Sports, Trailers, Travel & Events). The music category was the most popular in 2009, with more than 20% of the channels mainly uploading music videos. However, in 2016, most newly created channels have been occupied by people and blogs, close to 75%. Followed by the second is the game channel. 

In this research, I found out that the positioning and style of the channel are able to determine how much YouTuber earns. The fact that characters and blogs account for a large number in recent years also means that viewers prefer to watch this type. Another reason why the second-ranked—game channel has attracted a lot of viewers is that there are many different types of games, whether on mobile phones or computers. YouTuber’s current popular things make movies to attract viewers.

In summary, people are also concerned about this new and popular industry. Some people will like to get information or entertainment on YouTube, some people will like to be YouTuber to bring information and joy to others, and some people are full of doubts about this industry. Even if YouTuber is promoting for the benefit of the public, it is bringing all kinds of suggestions and opinions to the audience. There are also many rumors on the Internet.
