Relative to use electrical telegraphy, people need to trained to understand Morse code aurally for read the messages. The network grew make people more convenient to transmit and obtain message. The network break the time difference and the regional, so we can instantly know news, economy and things in other countries. Global networks have revolutionized human communication.

The Internet and communication networks have entirely new forms of social interaction and activities, also built a “cyberspace”. Cyberspace feature an interactive and virtual environment for people. It’s allow to share information, swap ideas, engage in discussions or social forums. For some people, cyberspace is increasingly their second life. People rely “cyberspace” to get attention, in the same time it ignore the people and things around.

As a internet world, network providing method for people to connect. However,  this is also separate people face-to-face communication.

Blog design and strategy

I have written nearly 40 blogs without any thoughts. I look back at the blogs from the beginning, and I’m a little messy. During this period, I learned a lot of writing skills and blog design, so I found my own style. WordPress is a platform that makes it easy for people to create their own websites, with simple operations and different themes for users, so they can place their websites in a style that is full of their own.

螢幕截圖 2019-07-26 22.07.21.png

First of all, I think that the front page of the website should attract readers’ attention. I changed my background and used the flowers I took during my trip to Japan as a background. Although the pattern of the flowers is dazzling, the background color of the article is white, which highlights the report. The whole theme of the website is using white, red, beige, and black.

Followed by the font of the article, I chose to use Karla. This font is the same as the content and is a font that is hard to read. I also use italics to distinguish titles.

螢幕截圖 2019-07-28 04.05.30.pngThird, the menu is essential. People can easily search for articles through the list and classify all blogs into topic categories. I categorize items of different themes together to let people can read easily. I also add some hashtags on each blog to make people more convenient.

Finally, I added a link to my contact and personal account. People can leave their opinions and get my information in other ways. Although I am not good at blog design, I hope my blog can readable to everyone. WordPress really provide lots of themes, and the personalized choice makes me surprised. You can make your own choice on every decision. That’s a great experience!

After completing the layout and design of the blog site, in order to enhance the attraction of my article, I added a picture and a theme tag to each article. The image can attract the reader’s first look, and can also explain the content of the article through the picture so that readers can have a better understanding when reading my blog. Adding tags allows readers to clearly understand the topic of the article and attract more readers to access my articles.

Designing a personal blog site is not easy, but after understanding and standing in the audience’s position, it is easier to redesign my blog. I changed from a messy blog to more orderly typesetting, and I feel a sense of accomplishment. I hope that the redesigned blog will make it easy for readers to read!

An examining the attention capacity short task

In this week, I watch a YouTube video about the attention capacity. The video is about a magician showing a magic trick. Using five $1 turns into five $100. After that, the video shows us what happened. When I was performing a little trick about money, it was actually changing elsewhere, and I didn’t notice it at all. It turns out that the magic trick is to attract our attention. What really changed is the thing behind the magician. When the lens is close to the magician, the set behind the back is replaced, and when the lens moves again, the magic table is replaced with a black chair, and even the hat on the magician’s head is changed from black to brown. I haven’t noticed these things because I have always focused on the performances of the magician.

This video is fascinating and surprising to me. I admit that I was controlled by the magic trick, and I have not found any change. After I reread the video, I can really know where I changed. I tested this video to my family. I told them that this was a small test of attention, then played the video and asked them what changed. The answer I got made me unexpected. My parents responded without change, and the younger brother returned that the magician’s hat was altered. This test is exciting, and people can test their attention.

Before, I have seen some prank video to change characters when others are not paying attention, to test the way people have found their changes. I think that the type of film makes me pay more attention to the things around me, and I will not only pay attention to the subject.

I don’t know if you have seen this type of video, and quickly share it with your friends to see if they have noticed any changes!

Can you imagine your family is a robot?

Cyborg Shen is a movie about a man who made a girl-like robot to protect himself when he was 21years old. When he was a 21-year-old boy, he met the robot which is he sent from the future, but he relied on the robot protection and deeply fell in love with the robot. After watching this movie, I admire the robotics in the movie, but I can’t imagine that I like a robot or have a robot companion or family.

The term robot is reminiscent of the humanoid role in the film. The program can command the robot to do things. The development of robot technology is continuously developing in society. The robot can be part of many aspects such as industry, medicine, science, architecture, and service. To give some examples, robots will be used to replace real people in the restaurant kitchen. The robot will serve as a waiter and produce food for the restaurant to solve the problem of insufficient manpower. An early childhood education center in San Diego, California employs a robot as a teacher’s assistant. The robot teaches children to sing and can help them make a sound. The hospital can program the robot to distribute the drug to the patient. The robot arm also performs an actual operation, and the surgeon sits on the controller and sees everything and controls the arm through the camera. But these robots are unnatural machines and programs. Without human feelings and character, it is very difficult to completely replace human beings. Can robots in movies not appear in reality?

I think that anything is possible. An AI robot was called Sophia was manufactured 3 years ago. Sophia was designed by Hanson Robotics. She has a human face, can have more than 60 expressions, and her expression is very realistic. In addition to expressions, you can talk to people and talk to each other. She has attended many shows, advertisements, and even summit meetings. Because Sophia behaves like a real person, many people are worried about things like movie plots, like being replaced by AI robots or human beings being annihilated by robots. AI robots learn very fast and can evolve and grow without relying on human knowledge, such as the AI Go robot “AlphaGo”. There is also the world’s first robot artist “Ai-Da”. She is able to paint independently, the style of painting is more abstract, and even exhibitions have been held in the UK. The current robot manufacturing technology is becoming more and more mature, and the robot is no longer as awkward as the past, and may indeed be able to replace the service industry in the near future.

People have always relied on electronics or machinery to facilitate their lives, and many things are mechanized. Humans have always been considered more advanced and organized than other animals, and many things in the world are controlled and developed by humans. But after the robots made by human beings are mass-produced, is humanity still dominant? Can people really replace robots with robots? Can robots solve even problems for humans?

Case Study: Gender Equality

If you can decide your own gender, how would you choose?
To determine your gender based on the current situation, it is really on the horns of a dilemma. If you are in the Nordic countries, you can choose to be the girl I want; if you are in Asia, men may be my only survival choice.

According to the report of the World Economic Forum, the average global gender equality index in 2018 is 68% (100% is gender equality). The report measures gender equality in 149 countries from four major factors: political empowerment, economic opportunity, educational achievement, and health status. The five countries with the highest equality of men and women are among the top five in the Nordic countries. One to five is Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. For example in Sweden, the concept of equality between male and female is deeply rooted in the hearts of every Swede and is practiced at all levels of life. In Sweden, men and women share the same toilet. Men and women divide their bills. Many people regard it as a behavior that is fair to women. It may be considered as discrimination against women in Sweden. Sweden is really a place that respects men and women very much. Also, a Swedish hospital will set up the first male violence center to care for men who have been raped. The reason for the general impression is that women are usually violent, while men are also likely to be victims and men are less to report a case after being raped. In contrast the Asian, for example in Japan, women’s work industry is restricted, women are not allowed to be first-served for the mayor, and sexual harassment has to be changed before they dare to say. Similarly, in South Korea, A member of the Korean girl group idol has published a photo in the restaurant, because the phone case held in the photo reads “Girls can do anything,” and the photos caused a crisis of criticism in South Korea. People claimed that the member deliberately promoted feminist ideals and the final photo was deleted. South Korea believes that feminism is negative, mainly because of their deep-rooted patriarchal culture. Gender equality is a topic that is being revolved around International Women’s Day on March 8 every year. Many organizations and independent people in society have spoken about equality between men and women. Which must know it is the “Patriarchy” and “Feminism.” The patriarchal thought refers to the idea that men are the center of power. It is considered that men are superior in psychology and physiology to women. It is a traditional concept of “male outside, female inside.” Feminism is not the opposite of women, but the pursuit of equality between men and women. In fact, equality between men and women is not only a fundamental human right but also an essential link in promoting sustainable development and ultimately achieving a peaceful society. The disparity between the rich and the poor, education inequality and racial discrimination, and even LGBT also involve the issue of gender equality. So why is gender equality difficult to achieve globally?

All societies divide people into male and female because of the differences between the two. Men and women are not the same physical structure, causing “inherently unfair” controversy. The controversial part is that the physical structure of men and women is inherently unfair, women need to bear the pain of childbearing, and men only need to take the responsibility of passing on the family. The obvious differences in genitals, people always use physical characteristics to identify men and women, there are often scientific studies that compare the character of the two with the brain. Have you ever heard that women are more suitable for social skills, including language, memory, and multitasking, and it is difficult for men to do better in perceiving and coordinating sports? Or is it man and good at analyzing tasks, and women are better at emotional processing and emotional processing? These research reports all hope to compare the abilities and personalities of men and women, but whether to use gender to distinguish between suitable jobs and the like?

Gender differences make men and women’s values different, and people always give their roles and feelings with their gender. For example, we have learned “lady first” since we were young. This is the performance of men who are polite to women and gentlemen. They use the concept of gentleman’s grace to beautify this concept of inequality between men and women. However, the lady first is an equal wrong education. Women enjoy a lot of material and opportunity privileges, and they are also regarded as a weak group. On the contrary, men become a group of people who are taken for granted. Besides, in Asian society, the gender stereotypes of “Man are breadwinners; women are homemakers” remain the same, which makes the society expect different standards for men and women. On the other hand, Tannen “For most women, the language of conversation is primarily a language of rapport: a way of establishing and negotiating relationships…For most men, talk is primarily a means to preserve the independence and negotiate and maintain status in a hierarchical social order” (Deborah Tannen, 1990). You Just Don’t Understand: Women And Men in Conversation is Deborah Tannen’s study of the differences in communication between men and women. The literature explains how gender-differentiated communication methods create stereotyped roles for men and women in the workplace, as well as differences in leadership styles between the two. It means that men can do certain jobs, and a working woman will have an advantage. In society, we think that for example, people interviews will focus on their personal qualifications and experience when applying for a job. However, the fact is that gender is also a factor that the company hires to consider. In the same way, the number of female students in the school is far less than that of male students, and there are only a few male students who choose the tailoring department. This is nowadays. Gender equality in Hong Kong. It is well known that gender differences are used An excuse for gender inequality, but does it mean that we need to correct this inequality, rather than looking for opportunities for gender equality under gender differences?

Absolute equality between men and women is complicated. Many people believe that equality between men and women should be equitably distributed in any place, but all balance is relative. Just like a family, it is about understanding each other’s assistance and respect, rather than distinguishing how much to pay. Respect is the basic courtesy of others, and should not be seen because of their identity and gender. Although the stereotypes and traditional concepts of gender differences are still very strong in various countries, people’s attitudes toward gender roles are slowly softening, indicating that gender equality is still improving. Since the women’s initiative to fight for power and equality, the topic of gender equality has been brought to any of the world’s things. People began to hang things around them with equality between men and women, such as movies, work, responsibility, education, and so on. However, human rights have gradually been covered by other global issues. In fact, equality between men and women is an important task for people to solve first because it is closely linked to other things.

Personal thoughts can change gender equality, true gender equality is still a challenge!

From private media to public media

I took a journey through Telford Plaza and connected MTR, and I saw much general information display and media services. There are many electrical stores in Telford Plaza, and TV and big screens provide information to attract passers-by. When the TV broadcasts left news and movies, people who walk around the mall will stop watching their phone and take a look.

g20_broadway.jpg

I remember one time I was impressed. A group of people stood in front of the electronics store and blocked the TV screens that attracted them. I am curious about what they are watching. I took a period of observation, it was playing the climax moment of the film, people are very focused. Because the movie only plays a short paragraph, the crowd quickly dissipates. I also found that when people watched, some people used their mobile phones to take a quick shot and posted it to the community or the media. Some people used mobile phones to search for movie clips online.

Today, everyone gets information on their mobile phones every day. Read news, send messages, search for content, watch videos, etc. on their mobile devices. People like to use their mobile phones at bow down. This is a personal way to search for information from the public. People in front of the electronics store are brought to their mobile phones by the media in society, which is very interesting.

For me,  I am one of the Hong Kong people, which is always focused on the mobile phone. After this observation, I also found that I would inadvertently share the things I saw on the mobile phone to my friends.

Cinema

All the people love watching movies, but the place might be changed from cinema to our home. Irreplaceable that cinema was providing the newest and memorable experience.

I remember that when I was a child from a weekend, my family activities must be watching movies, so I asked my dad about going to the cinema experience. My dad likes to watch movies in the war category and hero category. He remembers that the experience of watching a movie was exciting. At that time, he and mother took my sibling and me to the cinema near the home. Because there is only one cinema relatively close to the house, the other one need takes half an hour.

biqPeKUjk0HKHoF6LNaZunPCAFYGzRvP6piamOqYmpg.jpg

Moreover, this cinema is not chain operated. There are only four theaters that can accommodate around 100people, and the management personnel only have tickets seller, ticket inspector, and usher. My sibling and I wanted to watch a horror film, which is called “House of Wax,” but Dad wanted to see a war movie that we were interested in. The result was that Dad decided to hand us over to my mother and went to see the war film alone. We followed my mother to watch a horror film. After Dad completed the war film, he also sneaked to our theater to accompany us.

I also have some impressions of my father’s experience. In my perception, there is only the content of the movie and the experience of being dazed by my father. Because I like to watch quietly, I do not wish to watch and discuss the plot. Almost until the end of the movie, when the plot was very tight, Dad walked in and took a shot of my shoulder. I was scared to scream, but fortunately, it was a shocking moment, and all the theaters were screaming because of the movie. This time I am really impressed.

Audiences, Interviewees & Collaborative Media Ethnography

According to Fetterman (1998), the term “ethnography” can be defined as an activity that records people’s daily lives and explores the cultural characteristics of the group. Simply put, through questions and feedback, communication becomes a deeper understanding of each other’s views.

Last week, I interviewed the TV memories of classmate Jennifer. I thought it was because, in the same era, each other’s minds would be the same or very similar. Exciting things, the background between us is different, and the memories have changed. By talking about heaven, I knew that Jennifer’s mother used to be an actor. This is different for me and Jennifer’s feelings about watching TV in childhood. For me, the sense of watching TV in childhood is the time of entertainment. On the contrary, Jennifer’s feeling is that her mother is a person who has the opportunity to appear on television. This is the difference between the public and the ordinary. Face-to-face interaction, we can feel their views from the other side’s expressions and limbs. For example, when Jennifer tried to describe the appearance of television in her childhood, she would use the size and shape of the TV. This is easier to understand the story.

In fact, I tried the automatic demographic study in the last semester, but only observed the reaction of the interviewed people. This research has deepened the opinions and feelings of the respondents, let me know more about other people’s culture, and the whole study is fascinating and meaningful.

Internet is changing practices and spaces

Everyone knows that the changes in the Internet are becoming more and more gradual, from the previous wired Internet to the wifi. It provides people with more convenient communication and more information knowledge. This is like changing practices and space as we grew up.

I talked to my classmate, Adam, about the culture of the Internet. I didn’t expect us to have a similar experience. We all have siblings. When we were young, there was only one computer in the house, so we needed to use it together. At that time, there was no widespread use of mobile phones to access the Internet. Because the cost of mobile data is prohibitive, it relies on computers to access the Internet. I remember that when I knew how to use a computer in elementary school, I was most expecting computer classes and going home to do online homework every day. The reason is that there is an excuse to play the computer. After completing the homework quickly, go to MSN to chat with friends or play games on the Internet are our other entertainment than TV. Playing online games with siblings is the most profound. Street fighter is a game we most like and remember. We used our home phone to chat with friends when we didn’t have our own mobile phone before. Going online at home to continue the conversation at the school, this is the Internet happiness in primary school. From the emergence of MSN, the revolution of text message began, and now everyone uses the message to communicate.

Over time, computers to smartphones have completely changed the use of the Internet. Nowadays people have their own mobile phones that can be connected to the Internet without restrictions. Regardless of age, time, location, people are very focused on their mobile phones. The Internet has become a part of me and Adam’s daily life.

Do you think gender is equal?

According to the report of the World Economic Forum, the average global gender equality index in 2018 is 68% (100% is gender equality). The report measures gender equality in 149 countries from four major factors: political empowerment, economic opportunity, educational achievement, and health status. Why do people often pursue equality between men and women, but the equality index is only close to 70%?

Gender equality is a topic that is being revolved around International Women’s Day on March 8 every year. Many organizations and independent people in society have spoken about equality between men and women. In fact, equality between men and women is not only a fundamental human right but also an essential link in promoting sustainable development and ultimately achieving a peaceful society. Is it not enough for men and women to be equal now? In today’s democratic and free society, the law has a law on the protection of women’s gender discrimination. Women have the right to vote, education, and work, the same as men. But the topic of equality between men and women is still receiving much attention. What is it asking for?

For example, we have learned “lady first” since we were young. This is the performance of men who are polite to women and gentlemen. They use the concept of gentleman’s grace to beautify this concept of inequality between men and women. However, the lady first is an equal wrong education. Women enjoy a lot of material and opportunity privileges, and they are also regarded as a weak group.
On the contrary, men become a group of people who are taken for granted. Besides, in Asian society, the gender stereotypes of “Man are breadwinners; women are homemakers” remain the same, which makes the society expect different standards for men and women. A member of the Korean female group idol Apink once published a photo in the restaurant, because the phone case held in the photo reads “Girls can do anything,” and the photos caused a crisis of criticism in South Korea. People claimed that the member deliberately promoted feminist ideals and the final photo was deleted. South Korea believes that feminism is negative, mainly because of their deep-rooted patriarchal culture.

The equality between men and women often hears Patriarchy and Feminism. The patriarchal thought refers to the idea that men are the center of power. It is considered that men are superior in psychology and physiology to women. It is a traditional concept of “male outside, female inside.” Feminism is not the opposite of women, but the pursuit of equality between men and women. Women from history have no voting rights or freedom of reproduction. They have always been dominated by men. This is the fact that men and women have been unequal. It may be misunderstood that feminism is to create another male inequality, and women must dominate everything. But feminism emphasizes equality between men and women. Men and women enjoy the same human rights guarantees and can control their own destiny and future.

Why is gender equality difficult to achieve globally?
The controversial part is that the physical structure of men and women is inherently unfair, women need to bear the pain of childbearing, and men only need to take the responsibility of passing on the family. Because the natural physiological structure is different, it determines that the primary social division of labor between men and women is also separate. On the other hand, absolute equality between men and women is complicated. Many people believe that equality between men and women should be equitably distributed in any place, but all balance is relative. Just like a family, it is about understanding each other’s assistance and respect, rather than distinguishing how much to pay.
